CENTER FOR ARTISTS

View August 2007 Workshop Programme

The new center currently being designed in Yotala has been inspired in equal parts by the success of the
Sundance Institute’s progammes for writers and directors in the Utah mountains, and the achievements
of the Teatro de los Andes in creating a self-sustaining theatre community in a region where theatre did
not previously exist. The center is planned to be built on the land next to the Teatro de los Andes, near to
the capital city of Sucre. It will provide a home for visiting writers and directors where they can exchange
and develop their ideas, learning from different artistic disciplines and the different cultures that surround
them, and it will become a permanent base for events and courses planned throughout the year, culminating
in the annual summer workshop for theatre and cinema.

The scale and success of this project depends largely on the funding we are hoping to secure from similar
forward-looking European and American organisations who have already provided such invaluable support
for the development of new ideas in the Latin American Film Industry. Their continued enthusiasm has
played a vital role in the success of many projects up to this point.

In its first year, the workshop involved participants from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Bolivia, Chile, Peru,
Cuba, Italy, England, Scotland, Spain, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and the USA. This is only the beginning!
